In general, they are incredibly easy to measure for, and fit - much less work than tiles. But as they're non-returnable if they don't fit, it's worth measuring really carefully. (Trying to squeeze a piece of toughened glass into a too-small space will end in tears!).

Just in time for Valentine’s Day… I discovered a sketch of a Lovebird just before Christmas and spent part of our (very lovely!) week in the Norfolk countryside fiddling around with it. To be honest I’m still tinkering with it, and...

'Ocean Shoal' has proved an enduringly popular design. But, with a confusing number of layout options, it's sometimes difficult to choose the one that will work best for your project.

After a long time in the planning, I'm going to be offering my designs as print-to-order fabric and wallpaper. 

The process is a bit long-winded - we have to tidy up the designs, make sure they're in the correct repeat and don't have any weird millefiori-related marks (a  stray strand of dog hair in the picture, for example).

Tiles are expensive, so you don't want to order loads you won't need. But you also don't want to get to the end of a splashback and find you are three tiles short!

With a tape measure and a bit of basic maths, you can work out the area you plan to cover, and from that, how many tiles you need in your chosen size.

All our tiles are made to order, so there are two factors in working out when to expect them on your doorstep; you need add 'making' time, to 'shipping time'

Using pattern tiles effectivey - Part One. Is it possible to use two different tile finishes in the same area? Can I put the hardwearing version behind my gas stove, and use the decorative finish tile everywhere else? 

A few months ago I was asked to provide some tiles for The Great Pottery Throw Down, to be used on the Channel Four show.

At the end of June 2020, a client in the US persuaded me to try to find a more modestly-sized placemat rather than the huge ones I normally make.  Found a supplier and was a bit alarmed to find that...

Three months ago, a friend and mentor set me a deadline of 4th July to get "all my ducks in a row". By which he meant, clearing up the chaos of four years of experimentation, lightbulb moments, mistakes, organic growth, successes, failures and random whim-following.

 But it never turns out that way.

Happy October everyone! Quick reminder than my last Beginner's Polymer Workshop this year  is on Friday 19th October - less than a fortnight away. As always it'll be a fun, relaxed session with lots of laughter and some amazing patterns...

My younger child, Tom (8), goes back to school tomorrow, after the eternity of the summer holidays. It was a good eternity... just seasoned with the occasional burst of shouting and a hefty dose of guilt for trying to work...
